About Me

"Hi! My name is Leona Rawlinson and I'm so happy to welcome you to my website.
Harris Tweed has been very much a part of my life since I was a little girl, as my Father worked in a Harris Tweed Mill for well over twenty years. Regularly, as a young girl, I'd go to my Father's work to wait with him until closing time because my Mother was doing shifts with the local Coastguard. I loved the sight and smell of the Mill and was always interested in tweed.

My love for Harris Tweed was rekindled in a heart-warming way. Harris Tweed came back into my life when, years later, as a single Mum, one week down to my last fifteen pounds with bills to pay and children to care for I had a brainwave and chose to invest my fifteen pounds in Harris Tweed, which I then sold on and secured enough funds to cover my material needs. For subsequent years, this was the means by which I earned my living, selling tweed lengths and articles beautifully made from the tweed in various markets stalls not only on the Island but in Glasgow and Inverness as well as Skye, building wonderful friendships, an extensive customer base and collaborations with many talented crafters over the years.

The decision to open a shop rather than working stalls happened almost by chance. Whilst on holiday with a friend in Spain, I remarked upon the colorful rows of shops and expressed a wish to do something similar with the Tweeds at home. Hence “Tweedtastic” was born.

I'm very proud to design my own Tweed, as well as selling the tweeds of local, independent weavers and those of a Harris Tweed Mill. I'm delighted to be of service to many superbly talented local Island crafters, who afford me the privilege of selling their wares in my shop, and I still continue making Harris Tweed items for the shop myself with as much love and enthusiasm.

I hope you'll enjoy looking through some samples of our work and I invite you to purchase anything you wish with confidence. I have very high standards and accept only quality items to sell, selling little items that are not too bulky for tourists to take home for loved ones, to Harris Tweed Jackets, Wraps and handbags amongst larger items. (Please note that we will ship things for anyone wishing to buy larger items, but not to carry them home with them)

Additionally, I'm always interested to undertake commission ideas. Please feel free to get in touch with me should you wish anything made from a tweed of your choice. Looking forward to being of service to you."
